In the first incident of its kind in Odisha’s Jajpur district this year, a crocodile killed a woman in Birupa river at around 9.30am on Wednesday.
Some locals raised an alarm and tried to save her but could not. After a few hours, villagers, fire brigade personnel, and forest guards fished out her half-eaten body from the river,” Abhiram Jena, the forest range officer of Dalijoda, said.
Crocodile attacks were usually reported near Aul, Rajnagar, Pattamundai, and Rajkanika blocks in Kendrapada district and Chandabali block in Bhadrak district, which lies close to Bhitarkanika National Park. Wednesday’s incident took place in Palatapur village, which is about 100 km from the park.
