They had planned to meet another friend there, but they never showed up. They were traveling in a brown Jetta, which was later found near the Mirador San Miguel, with no signs of violence or robbery.

There is a video, of these 5 students, circulating on Twitter. We are not going to upload the video here. However, you can watch it on Twitter on the page of a Twitter user “iamrubenhdz” who posted the video on August 16.

On Tuesday morning, August 15, the Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office issued a brief statement denying that the bodies of the missing youths had been found. The statement also said that the investigation was ongoing and that no further details would be provided to protect it. The statement did not mention anything about the video or the photo that had been leaked.

The lack of official information and transparency has generated frustration and anger among the relatives and friends of the victims, as well as among the general public. They accuse the authorities of negligence, indifference and incompetence in handling the case. They also fear that the video and the photo could be part of a strategy to intimidate them or to divert attention from the real perpetrators.

The case of the five young people who disappeared in Lagos de Moreno is not an isolated incident. According to official data, Jalisco is one of the states with the highest number of disappearances in Mexico, with more than 12 thousand cases registered since 2006. Many of these cases remain unsolved or unpunished, leaving thousands of families in anguish and uncertainty.

The disappearance of Roberto, Diego, Uriel, Jaime and Dante has exposed once again the grave human rights crisis that Mexico faces in terms of security and justice. It has also shown the power and impunity of organized crime groups that operate in various regions of the country. The demand for truth and justice for these five young people is also a demand for all those who have gone missing in Mexico.
